How Linda Kadi works
Linda Kadi helps you check your voter registration on IEBC's own page and keep a private record of it on your phone.
Your details stay on your phone
- Your ID number, year of birth and results are saved only on your phone, locked and encrypted.
- We have no server that receives them. We couldn't look them up even if asked.
- Your phone compares each new result with your last one. Nobody else is in the middle.
- Lost your phone? Only a backup file you saved, with your own password, brings your history back. We can't open it.
What the app connects to
- IEBC's voter page (verify.iebc.or.ke), when you check. It works just as on IEBC's website.
- That page also loads things IEBC chose, such as Google's CAPTCHA and Google analytics. We don't control those.
- One public settings file from lindakadi.org, so we can pause checks in an emergency. Nothing about you is sent.
- Linda Kadi itself adds no ads, tracking or analytics.
What Linda Kadi can't do
- It can't check for you. You open IEBC's page and solve its CAPTCHA every time.
- It can't search for anyone's record, including yours.
- It doesn't know how you vote, and never asks.
- If IEBC's page fails, the app says so. It never calls that a lost registration.
Independent and non-partisan
- Linda Kadi is not part of IEBC, the government, or any party or campaign.
- It doesn't back candidates or tell you how to vote.
- What IEBC's page showed and what you told the app are kept apart and labelled "IEBC showed" and "You said".
What the statuses mean
- Unchanged
- IEBC showed the details you expect.
- Change detected
- IEBC showed something different. The app asks you to check again.
- Change confirmed
- The difference showed again on a separate check.
- Not returned this time
- IEBC's page didn't show your record in this check. This alone doesn't mean you were removed.
- Not returned on 2 days
- Not shown on two checks at least 24 hours apart, while IEBC's page was working. This still doesn't mean you were removed. Ask your IEBC constituency office.
- Couldn't check
- IEBC's page failed or was busy. This says nothing about your registration.
Signed data
The app only trusts county, ward and polling-centre lists signed with our key.
